Sentinels (Financial Risk and Compliance)

The financial system is facing serious challenges. Banks and payment service providers are struggling to meet the requirements of regulators, and current Anti-Money Laundering solutions are falling short of needs. At the root of financial crime are felonies involving drugs, human trafficking and terrorism.

But there’s hope! AI and machine learning offer the promise to effectively catch criminals. The Sentinels team is building cutting-edge AI software products to help financial institutions meet pressing regulatory requirements, reduce false positives, maximize their customer experience, and fight financial crime.

Product Manager | Product & Design Team

The Sentinels Product Manager is a strategic business partner – to both our internal and external stakeholders. In this role, you will lead the squad responsible for the workflow of risk and compliance analysts. You will lead product development to help analysts understand the people they are investigating, and make the best decision in their assessment, in the most efficient way. You will focus on deeply understanding the needs of analysts, and build an efficient, future-proof, and user-centred workflow.

To achieve this, you will also work closely with our machine learning and software engineers to prioritize features/backlog, schedule releases and coordinates sprints. You should be able to identify user needs, understand a business value and work with cross-functional teams to manage product releases. You report to the Head of Product & Design of Sentinels and you are part of the Sentinels Product team. We organize teams per outcomes, such that each squad’s Product Manager has a clear mission and objectives, you can act like the CEO of your squad, and you are fully empowered and responsible for the results achieved.

This role will be based in either our Groningen or Amsterdam office. Approximately 20% travel expected (between offices, and to the client).

Responsibilities

  • Delivers value to the user
  • Evaluates opportunities and determines what gets built and delivered to customers
  • Turn product roadmap into use cases, epics, stories, prioritized backlogs for the engineering teams
  • Track the value the product creates through outcomes (accuracy, workload, usage, other value metrics) so that product decisions are data driven
  • Owns the product vision and roadmap for his / her area
  • Work with users to analyze needs and align product roadmap to strategic goals through discovery sessions
  • Understand the client’s workflows and business processes
  • Understand the market and the client’s strategy and business goals
  • Create and maintain a clear product roadmap to guide future development and innovation
  • Act as an ambassador for the product internally and externally and as the primary contact for queries related to the product
  • Represents team in front of stakeholders, clients or users 

A typical week

  • Product discovery (70%)
        • Meet users, gather and analyse data, talk with industry experts, in order to get deep understanding of the problem; Refine product outcomes.
        • Organise discovery workshops with the squad; brainstorm ideas that could meet defined outcomes.  
        • Define MVP or prototype to gather evidence on the value and usability of product development ideas; you use a variety of tools: user interviews, usability tests, data analysis.
        • Analyse results from your experiments, feed into the backlog
  • Product delivery (30%)
        • Organise backlog refinement session with designers and developers of the squad
        • Prepare user stories for coming sprint; explain the “why”; define metrics to measure effectiveness of the user story.
        • Prepare sprint review and planning with the squad.  

Skills and Experience

  • 2-4 years of Product Management / Ownership experience
  • Management of (senior) stakeholders and their expectations
  • Deep understanding and experience with Agile methodologies
  • Deep understanding and experience of good UX principles
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to deliver on a common goal
  • Interpersonal skills and developing relationships with team members and customers
  • Bonus points for Risk & Compliance industry experience
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and leadership skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
